Joe Biden’s administration is optimistic the president’s controversial son breached no regulation.
The White House is not worried about any official investigation into whether the president profited from his son’s illegally obtained foreign funds.
“Of course the president is confident that his son did not break the law,” chief of staff Ron Klain said according to ABC’s “This Week” program.
Klain rejected any suggestion the Oval Office bearer could have participated in international money laundering activities.
“These are actions by Hunter and his brother; they are private matters; they do not involve the president; and they certainly are something that no one at the White House is involved in,” he said according to the broadcaster.
The remarks came weeks after political writer Peter Schweizer claimed President Biden should also be implicated in the allegations.
“This is not just a Hunter Biden story … and what the laptop reveals is that Hunter Biden received these funds but the president of the United States, Joe Biden, was a recipient and a beneficiary of those funds [too,]” he previously said.
The author of “Red-Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win” suspects the pair’s finances are intertwined, and the son used some of the money to pay monthly bills and home repair expenses.
“Hunter Biden and Joe Biden had intermingled finances … so this is a story that goes straight to the president and each of these countries, particularly China, has a policy of using commercial ties, financial ties, as leverage over foreign elites–and they clearly have that in this case with Joe Biden,” he said.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) recently entered the contents of Hunter’s laptop into the congressional record. The device’s hard disk is widely reported to contain evidence that questions whether the president profited from his son’s illegally obtained foreign funds.
“Moments ago, I successfully entered the hard drive of Hunter Biden’s laptop into the congressional record, [so let us] subpoena Hunter Biden,” the congressman said on Twitter.

Klain promised any official investigation will be conducted independently from the Oval Office.
“That is a matter that is going to be decided by the Justice Department by the legal process. It is a process no one at the White House is involvement in,” he said according to ABC’s “This Week” program.
“One reason why Joe Biden got elected was he promised he would take the decision over who got prosecuted and what away from the White House, and put it in the Justice Department,” he added.
