According to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate website, on May 20, Gong Jianhua, a former deputy director of Jiangxi Provincial People’s Congress, was arrested of taking bribes.
Gong is accused of organizing small gangs, obtaining benefits for others through the selection and appointment of cadres and staff, engaging in rent-seeking power and family-style corruption, and misusing his position to benefit others. He also helps others earn from land transfers, project development, and similar activities, accepting big quantities of money unlawfully.
Gong was investigated on November 29, 2021, and had admitted his crime. On May 10, Gong was officially informed that he was double-opened, which means expelled from the Party and public office.
Gong has served in Jiangxi Province for a long time from January 2000. He has held many major positions as deputy mayor of Nanchang City, Deputy Secretary of the Party, Secretary-General of the Provincial Committee, etc.
During his tenure, Gong also engaged in human rights crimes and persecuted Falun Gong practitioners.
According to the Jiangxi Commission for Discipline Inspection website, more than forty officials have fallen in Jiangxi Province in 2021 alone.
