According to the information on the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), on May 10, Liu Cheng, the former deputy secretary and secretary-general of the Political and Legal Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee, was investigated. Liu was investigated for alleged serious violations of discipline and law.

Liu Cheng, born in September 1961, had long served in the political and legal system of Hainan Province.

From July 2011 to April 2018, Liu Cheng served as the deputy secretary of the Party Group (at the department level) and vice president of the Hainan Provincial Higher People’s Court. There, he worked with Zhang Jiahui.

Zhang Jiahui, a former member of the Party Group and vice president of the Hainan Provincial Higher People’s Court, was investigated in 2019. Later, in 2020, Zhang was sentenced to 18 years in prison. She was also fined 4 million yuan (around 600 thousand dollars) for accepting bribes, administrative perversion, and fraud.
