Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, celebrated having 7 million fans with a post on his Weibo account. It unexpectedly backfired.

The Liberty Times reported that Zhao, happy to have reached 7 million fans, wrote a poem on his personal Weibo account with the following content:

“On the path of diplomacy is not alone,

Best friends always walk hand in hand,

Our generation must be more diligent,

Holding books, swinging swords, shining China.”

Unexpectedly, the poem immediately received negative comments from Chinese netizens.

One wrote, “Don’t know how to rhyme.” Another said, “Can you ask Zhao where he learned his language.”

According to the report, on November 19, Zhao deleted the poem and changed the content to “Thank you to everyone, especially my close friends who always follow me.” The poster with the poem only has the first two lines left, “On the path of diplomacy is not alone, Best friends always walk hand in hand.”
